This talk has been programmed in lieu of the Queens Museum’s Annual Gala, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 public health crisis. Please join Sally Tallant to celebrate the Queens Museum together with their 2020 honoree Tom Finkelpearl, former New York City Cultural Affairs Commissioner. Even without the in-person event they want to pay tribute to their 2020 honorees including Peter and Helen Warwick, art supporters, and the Queens Museum Studio Artists. 

Sally Tallant, QM Executive Director and Tom Finkelpearl, former New York City Cultural Affairs Commissioner will be in conversation with invited guests. They will discuss the Queens Museum’s past, present and future. Special guest appearances include Maria Canela, former Queens Museum New New Yorker program participant, Pedro Reyes, artist, and Sable Elyse Smith, artist and Queens Museum Trustee.

Sally Tallant is the President and Executive Director of the Queens Museum, New York. She was previously Director of Liverpool Biennial from 2011-2019 and Head of Programmes at the Serpentine Gallery, London from 2001-2011. She has curated exhibitions in a wide range of contexts including galleries, museums, public spaces and non-arts contexts and is a regular contributor to conferences nationally and internationally. In 2018 she was awarded an OBE for services to the Arts in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Tom Finkelpearl has worked for three institutions for 12 years each: PS1 Contemporary Art Center in the 1980s and then around the turn of the millennium helping shape their merger with MoMA;  at the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs in the 1990s as Director of the Percent for Art program and then as Commissioner for six years under Mayor de Blasio, and as the Director of the Queens Museum 2002-2014.
