What’s a Housing Voucher?
The HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) is a NYC program created in 1985 in recognition of the fact that people living with HIV/AIDS have special needs in accessing and maintaining their government benefits. A HASA Housing Voucher is a financial supplement provided by the NYC HASA program that ensures that someone living with HIV/AIDS doesn’t owe more than 30% of their income towards their rent. As of August 29, 2016, HASA covers income qualifying city residents who are HIVpositive regardless of whether they are showing symptoms. There are a few other forms of Housing Vouchers, such as Section 8 and LINC, that work a little differently.
