TIBETAN LINEAGES

The Lineages Project is a digital encyclopedia of historical religious figures of Tibet together with portraits from the Rubin Museum of Art and other important collections.

The website has launched as a work in progress. A beta version with the Nyingma sect is complete, awaiting a revised design. The site's scholarly biographies and iconographic descriptions will gradually increase in scope and number to include all branches of Tibetan Buddhism.

The Lineages site will be extensively linked to the Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center and Himalayan Art Resources, adding biographical content to their already extensive bibliographic and iconographic information.

Although the Lineages Project will be organized around the dominant religious traditions of Tibet, with pages dedicated to the leading figures of the Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya, Gelug, and Jonang, it will nevertheless reflect an understanding that Tibetan lineages both interweave and branch off in many directions.
