LABOR ARTS

Labor Arts is an electronic art gallery and study center that gathers, identifies and displays the cultural artifacts of working people and their organizations.  Its mission is to present powerful images that help us understand the past and present lives of working people, and to portray cultural and artistic history of the labor movement.

The site’s extensive collections feature materials such as songs, cartoons, photographs, banners, leaflets, and buttons, all of which are easily searchable either by period or thematic subject. Additionally, special exhibits highlight diverse topics such as IWW “Wobbly” culture, 100 years of Goodwill, the United Mine Workers, and the TWU Local 100 strike of 2005.

Labor Arts represents a collaboration of the Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives at New York University, the Bread and Roses Cultural Program (1199/SEIU), and the Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation.
