CIVIL LIBERTY & SOCIAL JUSTICE

We think that liberty and social justice are fundamental values, and work on their behalf is integral to most efforts at human betterment.  We have a particular interest in helping young people to understand these issues, so we support the New York Civil Liberties Union and other organizations offering student prizes for good writing about liberty.  We intend to be long term partners of Human Rights Watch, and we also plan to offer regular support to work that effectively undermines governments’ capacities for electronic censorship.  

We assume that most of our giving in this area will go to organizations with impressive records of achievement in these areas.  But we are interested in hearing about big gains in liberty or social justice that might be won with relatively small resources
