The Foundation believes that the most effective way to foster education and awareness of the Himalayan Region’s culture, history, religion, and art is to support a broad array of courses at universities and colleges in the area of Himalayan studies. Recognizing that there are several notable graduate school programs in this area, we are urging scholars in the field to reach out to undergraduates, capitalizing on deepening academic knowledge in the relevant fields and on college students’ curiosity about a fascinating and pivotal region that is increasingly open to travel.
The Foundation plans to award a number of $30,000 grants, renewable for up to five years, with the aim of establishing a lasting presence of Himalayan Studies at the receiving institutions. Grantees may use their funds to develop and teach courses as well as to finance extra-curricular events such as lectures, exhibits, performances, workshops, and other similar programs.
